TINY BITES OF DELIGHT…

Raleigh Cake Pops

I work in a small town.  A very small town.  Creedmoor, NC.  One of my coworkers and I spend most of our time reminiscing about how it felt to work in a city, where you had choices of things to eat and could go a whole week and not eat the same thing twice.  There is literally nothing but fast food in this town.  Even the sit down restaurants serve very little other than fried foods.  It’s a sad sad place to work for a foodie like me.  Or at least it was sad.  Until I discovered Raleigh Cake Pops.  Prior to their opening, there was one other bakery in the town that is best loved for their stash of Loco Pops.  So you can understand why when Raleigh Cake Pops opened, we were skeptical. But out of desperation, we gave them a chance.

I’ve visited Raleigh Cake Pops probably 100 times since they opened.  My first visit, I was horribly disappointed.  The service was terrible, and I made the mistake of ordering a latte.  It was a travesty.  The person making it used a glass pitcher, no thermometer and when the espresso came out, he apologized for the small amount of coffee and asked if I wanted some of the “regular stuff” added to fill it up a bit more.  It tasted like sour milk poured over mud.  It was awful.  They have since done away with the espresso machine and I thank them for that.

Each visit brings improvement.  The selection of cake pops is extensive and delicious.  They have that perfect gooey center and amazing icing.

I’ve tried the classic white, sprinkle, chocolate chip, cookies and cream….I think that’s it.  I’m partial to the classic white one with the tiny circle sprinkles.  So delicious.  Aside from the cake pops, they have a good selection of brownie pops, cheesecake pops, ice cream sandwiches, cakes, pies, and a limited selection of cookies.

These items are tasty! Here’s why the rating is so low; the drink selection is small – however the lemonade is AWESOME! Nice and tart.  Even though they have a large selection, often times there isn’t as much available as at other times.  They make these UNBELIEVABLE sugar cookies – they are perfectly moist and chewy, covered in an almond icing that is so unique and interesting.  I’ve never had a sugar cookie that is so good.  But they NEVER have them in the store.  You have to special order them.  If they had these in stock every day, I’d have scored 5 out of 5 for food and beverage, even with the rocky start on the latte.

The dipped Oreos look great, but I’m not a fan of oreos, so I’ve yet to try them.  You can also see some dipped items over to the right, I believe those are chocolate dipped Twinkies. I’ve yet to try them, and probably won’t, but I bet for someone that likes Twinkies they are a delight.  They also offer coffee, frozen hot chocolate and some sodas.

Service wise, each time I have a better experience.  As I stated before, the latte experience was a horrible mess.  A few times when visiting, they have struggled with the credit card system, or been a little curt about the lack of cookies.  On recent visits, I’ve had amazing services.  One of the bakery ladies once set aside some of the sugar cookies for my coworker and I, and usually when we go into visit, they are very friendly and speedy with the credit card device.

Its a cute little spot, but what kind of takes away from the ambiance is that the store is a little crammed.  You kinda feel like you’re intruding on someone’s personal cooking space. They do their best to friendly it up with some tables out front and nice signage, but still…it just feels a little uncomfortable.

The prices are great, the treats are tasty, I’d say if you are unfortunate enough to be in Creedmoor, you’d better stop by for treat! Now that they’ve got their foothold, they are really booming.
